THE BINDING OF ISAAC: AFTERBIRTH + IS A REAL GREAT GAME!

I love rogue games and taking advantage of the freshness offered by Nintendo Switch to take any game anywhere, I decided to give The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth + a chance .

I got it right. As you probably know, it's from the same Super Meat Boy developer ( Team Meat , 2010), the famous bloody platforms, but this time we start from a zenith perspective, with appearances similar to the two-dimensional Zelda , but much faster and fluid . The game puts us in the flesh of Isaac, and discovers that his mother wants to kill him, so he decides to go into some dungeons he finds under his house, all very normal seeing the times in our societies.

This version of Switch is a revision, since the game was released in 2011 and have been incorporating improvements, in fact you can still get on Steam , but in this latest version for the Nintendo console brings together all the additions that have appeared so far .

The controls of the character are very basic , with the left stick we move, and with the right we shoot in the indicated direction. Eye to this, because we only shoot in the four cardinal directions, here there are no diagonals, 256 levels of direction or anything like that. Up, down, left and right to shoot, and to run. With such simple controls you can get to presume to say that the game is very basic or simple, but none of this. Perhaps this game where it stands out the most, and in the passage of time you will be able to realize this, is in the great variety of situations and different types of challenges it poses.

With a total of six hundred different collectibles , each with its advantages and weaknesses, more than thirteen playable characters , we will have to unlock little by little, to the parrot, more than one hundred and eighty different enemies, which we will find in countless dungeons, because the game is not developed on a fixed map, but in each game, the mapping is generated randomly, so that each game that we start will be completely different from the previous one.

The graphics of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth + are basic and pixelated on purpose, but at the same time funny, fast and fluid. There are quite a lot of comical and bloody scenes at the same time, which disguises the technical level of the sprites quite well, but being the type of game that is, nothing is missed. This is not your strong point. The gameplay of the title is its great option, and I think that it is best used on a portable platform.

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth + where it is best used is on trips of a few minutes, since our games do not last several hours or anything like that. It's like the arcade machines before, that for twenty-five pesetas you could be enjoying the most for ten or fifteen minutes, because this style of play is very similar. The game is quite difficult, enemies have no mercy and at the slightest error we can find death at any time. A game that starts fatal, can be straightened in a few seconds, and a meteoric start is ruined in tenths of a second. Just tell you that the game has twenty different endings, to see who is the handyman who runs them all.

In addition to all this, The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth + also incorporates multiplayer mode of up to four participants at a time in cooperative mode. If already in some situations playing only the stage becomes a chaos, with four players at once the chaos is completely constant, but even more fun. The game also has its technical part, since it is not only shooting everything that moves , we have to be cautious with the keys that we are finding, and to open the way where we are interested in bombs, and that little touch of coherence we need to get as far as possible in the adventure.

The sound section enjoys great quality well, with melodies that will remind us of the classic midis of the games of the eighties. But that is not the best of its sound, but the sounds and exclamations of the enemies themselves and characters on screen. Some have really funny expressions like vomit and curious little voices, and they sound really good, to compose a very good sound section improving the gameplay.

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth + is a total homage to the classic role-playing games , and another proof of this is the manual that contains the physical version of the game. It is worth doing with the palpable edition to see its manual care of instructions of golden color, traced to that of Zelda of NES , with logos of imitation of the classic Seal of Quality of Nintendo and the main cover that narrates: Instruction Booklet , is a manual which is printed keeping the patterns of the old school, a detail that is appreciated seeing that currently the physical editing game that we acquired in most cases no longer have a printed manual.

I would describe it as essential , others will say that I am crazy, and surely they guess, but The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth + is a real great game . And more taking advantage of the virtues of Nintendo Switch . A devilish gameplay that can make you enjoy those little trips. An incredible addiction, since you'll be eager to start a game again and see what objects can fall. Eliminate that last enemy that has left you at the gates of the next dungeon. That I am a nostalgic. That has new things. Try it and tell me .
