THE SIN OF RARE (AND OF SEA OF THIEVES ): HAVE FUN!

I'm not passionate about stick legs. Not the hooks. Not even the pirates' camaraderie in the typical taverns. However, Sea of Thieves has made me feel like one of the crew ; a sea wolf who longs to tread on dry land after a long journey.
Let's say it loud and clear: there is little left of the Rare of yesteryear . The majority of the members of the group that gave us jewelry like Goldeneye 007 , Donkey Kong Country or Perfect Dark -among others- are scattered in other teams. Still, they still resist part of those foundations that have begun to fade in recent years: making a product for and for the fun of the players.

His last work has not had anything easy. Since its revelation back in 2015, it has gone through a multitude of stages ... and delays. The silence around his figure ended up resulting in its natural state . With him it was easy to make the pools at the upcoming press conferences by Microsoft in the great Californian event; He always came. During these three long years - to be told to Kiryu - Rare has gone through his own penance at the hands of the community.
What we all expected from the stands is that those discordant voices continued to resonate. It usually happens in the majority of exclusive projects on the part of followers of the opposite platform, although in this case the company has given, on paper, ammunition to shoot against them. Perhaps deliberately, I personally lean towards this idea, but the idea behind Sea of Thieves is special and difficult to understand if you have not lived the true experience.

For example, one of the most criticized issues is the lack of reward when performing the different missions and PVP meetings, in addition to the fact that the new equipment does not impact the gameplay, but that they are merely aesthetic changes. We players have become accustomed to receiving cookies for every action we complete, no matter how small. Demand for a little and receive a lot, and when a title comes that tries to give a twist to this type of exorbitant designs receives its good portion of sticks.
Rare has believed that the best way to create your own pirate ecosystem is to propose a series of equal tools for all players , betting on the balance against randomness or, worse, the accumulation of hours or the ever-present pay to win . The same thing happens in the PVP section. Eliminating players offers nothing more than the satisfaction of breaking the opponent, or as a crew would think: serve as a decoy so that other companions can steal the booty of their ship.

Sea of Thieves makes you keep in mind the piling above the power of the blade. The objective is to steal, bitch, play a sonata, collaborate together in a raid and laugh. Choosing a reduced number of players per server in front of the massification of other gender partners also has an argument to sustain. Each encounter becomes something unique, reigning the confusion by the uncertainty of the future of events. This does not mean that it is not usual to meet others, but it is sufficiently adjusted so that everyday life continues to have a point of mystery.
The solo experience does not do justice to what it truly feels to gather three other friends. Rare's first great unpublished release in the present generation is based mainly on social experience . It is a continuous generator of anecdotes and epic moments where laughter is always assured. «All cooperative games improve in sensations», yes, but they do not offer the tools nor are they designed mainly around this idea.

These about 72 hours on the market has happened to me in this virtual sea. From the robbery of our ship after docking in a trading post, going through the infiltration in a warship to get the treasures or feel the water up to the neck after losing a naval battle. There are so many moments that I have lived these days that it is difficult for me to understand how a project so different from the average is destroyed.
I am not saying that some decisions regarding the initial content or mechanics such as combat can not be criticized, that they are , but it is becoming a mountain of a grain of sand. And the worst of all: without having tried it or not giving it enough hours that requires every game that presents a persistent world. Thinking cold, Rare's great sin has been to have fun . And it seems that that is not enough for everyone looking for that.
